My first day attending a Dutch school in Amsterdam
[This entry is from my 1976 handwritten diary. On November 23, 2011 I posted this to my blog and I added this bracketed language, the photograph and the hyperlinks. I was in 7th grade when I wrote this journal entry. I typed this post as I wrote it, including the mistakes, so you can see how I wrote back then. Keep in mind this is my private diary, and I’m sure I could have written with fewer errors had I known I would be showing it to the world years later. On March 30, 1976 my family moved from Chicago, Illinois, USA to Amsterdam, Netherlands for about four months. I wrote in my diary frequently during that time, and I plan to post all the entries to this blog. The photograph above is of the actual school I attended. I scanned the photo from the lovely handmade yearbook I received before I returned to Chicago, Illinois, USA. If any of my classmates discover this blog, please write to me. In particular, I want to visit this school if it still exists.]
Today was our first day of school. We (Andy and I) went to a Montesorie school. The idea of it is that insted of the whole class doing the same thing, you do any subject you want to.
I have a man teacher. He speaks a little english and it helps. There is an American speaking girl in my class. Shes sort of nice. I don’t want to get to know her to well because Andy kids me about her.
I got some flash cards and the girl (Im not sure of her name) qwized me. I could go through them fast in the end. So I know some more words. I don’t think Ill get any homework at school because I don’t spech dutch. I don’t like school to much.
