We meet our hosts and visit the Rijksmuseum
[This entry is from my 1976 handwritten diary. On November 20, 2011 I posted this to my blog and I added this bracketed language, the photograph and the hyperlinks. I was in 7th grade when I wrote this journal entry. I typed this post as I wrote it, including the mistakes, so you can see how I wrote back then. Keep in mind this is my private diary, and I’m sure I could have written with fewer errors had I known I would be showing it to the world 35 years later. On March 30, 1976 my family moved from Chicago, Illinois, USA to Amsterdam, Netherlands for about four months. I wrote in my diary frequently during that time, and I plan to post all the entries to this blog.]
Today was fun. We got to now the two boys who are the sons of our landlady who is living with us. I think we are going to have a lot of fun together and learn some dutch.
We took a trip around Amsterdam, that included a trip to the Rijks museum. It was sort of interesting to go there, and we got some postcards and some slides. Since I am going to make a slide show I want to buy some slides to put in my show.
The 2 boys (Arnold and Oscar) both speak dutch and a little english and we speak english and 1 or 2 words of dutch, but we can communicate most of the time.
The house is nice and we (Andy and I) have a bunk bed. There is a canal outside and a canoe to ride. We haven’t riden the canoe but we might ride it tomorow.
